Reimagining seniors living

Set to be built at 20 Kintail Road, Applecross, luxury retirement apartment development Grandton Applecross will enjoy leafy avenues, jacarandah trees and waterfront pathways that connect to tranquil parklands.

Norup + Wilson Director and Grandton Applecross Developer and Project Manager John Norup said the 80-apartment development was the first of its kind in Western Australia.

“When we talk about reimagining seniors living, it is no idle boast,” he said. “Imagine an apartment where you can enjoy all the benefits of an independent living lifestyle as you transition into your retirement home with the peace of mind that personal and clinical care services will be provided to you where you live,” he said.

“You will have the benefits of the Grandton Gold Service concierge and in-house support on your doorstep, if and whenever you need it.”

Seniors Own Real Estate Managing Director and Principal Mike Graebner said the residences were architecturally and intelligently designed for active and independent living, and to be adaptable to meet the personal needs of residents, providing them with the opportunity to live their life as they wish.

“Apart from large living space, residents will have access to a vibrant ground-floor reception and lounge complemented by a public piazza and restaurant,” he said.

“Additionally, the sky garden with relaxation and entertainment facilities, together with vegetable and herb gardens, complements the indoor heated pool, yoga spa, gym, cinema, hair salon and lounges.

“A 10-bed private care suite is located within the building, designed to cater for more severe cognitive and physical disabilities when these cannot be accommodated in an apartment. Residents have priority access subject to availability and health assessments.”

The complex will offer the opportunity to move into an apartment that is purpose built for downsizers.

“It’s definitely not an aged care facility but a new way of living and enabling a person to really enjoy their senior years in whatever way they wish,” Mr Graebner said.

“We ask people to tell us what is important to them.

“There are five key considerations relating to how they want to live – the lifestyle they want, the form of accommodation they want to live in, their preferred location considering their social network and proximity to family, the financial arrangements and how it works for them, and the support and care as they age.

“While all are very important, some are more crucial than others for the individual, depending on where a person is in their life.

“No matter which way you look at it, Grandton Applecross does tick all the boxes.”

From the more compact 61sqm one-bedroom apartment on the third floor to the largest 208sqm penthouse apartment, the development offers flexibility of lifestyle and a sense of community.

“This is the way forward for seniors,” Seniors Own Sales Agent Brett Nosworthy said.

“This superbly designed building and its lifestyle options are the best I’ve seen.”

Villa considers all lifestyle choices

Living your retirement years in comfort and style will be easy in the contemporary villa 12 nestled safely in a cul-de-sac at Meath Mews Trigg.

With a streamlined look and low-maintenance lifestyle, the villa boasts commodious zones, is fitted with high-quality appliances and finishes and is adorned with a neutral colour scheme to provide a sense of balance and calm.

The hub of the villa flows across a spacious open-plan layout, offering a kitchen, dining and living area.

Fitted with an abundance of benchtop space, the kitchen also features stainless steel Fisher & Paykel appliances, including a 600mm-wide stainless steel wall oven, gas hotplate and a full-sized dishwasher, along with modern cabinetry.

Seniors Own Real Estate Sales Agent Caryl Sutrisno said the villa had clever zoning to ensure residents and visitors could easily find some alone time.

“The bedrooms are at the rear of the villa and can be separated from the living areas by a sliding door and a passageway,” she said.

“For maximum privacy the powder room can be accessed by your guests without them walking past the bedrooms.”

All featuring built-in robes to save on space, the three bedrooms are spacious enough to house larger beds to make sure occupants and visitors both experience luxury.

The Mitsubishi ducted reverse-cycle air-conditioning can be zoned across the living areas, main bedroom, minor bedrooms and study.

Both bathrooms feature extensive tiling, benchtop space and storage, and are spacious to allow you to move around freely without feeling cramped.

With a number of windows and glass doors throughout, the home welcomes natural light, amplified through the use of louvres and the north-facing porch and living room which is open to sunlight during the winter months.

Step outside and enjoy the small garden bed at the front, or relax in the sheltered paved alfresco with family and friends.

The villa is also fitted with a single garage, meaning you can keep your car protected from the elements.

With its coastal locale, Ms Sutrisno said the village allowed residents to live the lifestyle that suited them best. For homebodies it offers a clubhouse and an all-weather swimming pool, while the village surrounds are sought-after by all buyer demographics.

“The village allows residents a choice of an active lifestyle, with parks and bushland, walking trails, North Beach Tennis Club, North Beach Bowls Club, Trigg Beach, Mettams Pool, a pilates studio, a gym, Hamersley Public Golf Course and Scarborough Beach Pool nearby,” she said.

“For a more relaxed lifestyle there are cafes, restaurants, hair and beauty salons and yoga studios in the vicinity.”

Seniors Own Real Estate Managing Director Mike Graebner described Trigg as a well-established, affluent and leafy suburb which hugged the coastline, yet offered multiple green open spaces such as Star Swamp Reserve and Trigg Bushland Reserve.

“The suburb is also close to Charles Riley Memorial Reserve and retail precincts, including North Beach Shopping Centre, the trendy Flora Terrace precinct and the fast-evolving Karrinyup Shopping Centre,” he said.

“Marmion Avenue, West Coast Highway, Karrinyup Road and access to the freeway offer transport corridors, and there are public bus routes nearby.”

Age in place in cultural hub

With homes selling at a rapid pace and prices on the rise, some retirees are seeing now as a good time to sell and move into a community of likeminded individuals in a retirement village.

“We’ve seen the number of enquiries and home open visits increase significantly in 2021 as confidence returns to the housing market,” MYVISTA CEO Irene Mooney said.

“People are seeking to leverage rising house values and free up their capital by downsizing. They’re recognising that MYVISTA’s Mirrabooka apartments, located at 3 Doncaster Road, are very competitively priced and offer excellent value.

“They are attracted to the opportunity to enjoy life in a beautiful new apartment, with capital left over to use to live their life to the fullest.”

The apartments come in a configuration of two or three bedrooms and range in price from $325,550 to $579,500.

“As the complex was only completed last year, prospective residents still have the opportunity to choose between a two or three-bed apartment on each of the five floors,” Seniors Own Managing Director Mike Graebner said.

“The layout and finishing varies as well. Now is a great time to come and walk through each one to see what appeals.”

The apartments match the high quality of any new apartment, but have subtle features that enable people to age in place.

“There’s a choice of three stylish finishes, with lots of extras included like induction stoves, masses of inbuilt cupboards and a combination washer/dryer in the full-sized laundry,” Seniors Own Sales Consultant Caryl Sustrisno said.

“All the apartments have very big balconies and from many you can see to the city or the hills.”

Ms Sustrisno said the first residents were moving in soon, and each came looking forward to different things.

“One new resident says she is looking forward to cooking in her new full-sized kitchen and entertaining her family,” she said.

“For another lady due to move in next month, the move will bring her back close to her husband who now lives in our residential care building next door.

“She will be able to walk over the bridge that connects the two buildings to visit him whenever she chooses.”

The ground floor of the complex will be home to a clubroom, medical centre, physio and gym, alongside a pool, hairdresser, chemist and cafe.

“Residents will feel very safe and comfortable in their modern, light-filled apartments which have easy-to-navigate passageways, bathrooms and kitchens, as well as an emergency alarm just in case it’s needed,” Ms Sustrisno said.

“We envisage the residents will also enjoy being part of a community they can form new connections with. There are lots of communal spaces where people will be able to say hello to their neighbours, and the HUB is a delightful space intended for group activities.

“MYVISTA was founded to meet the needs of people from other cultures and we really want to let people know this is a place where your heritage will be valued and celebrated.”
